Savannah's first camping trip! 7 weeks old!
I didn't realize how freaked out I was about Savannah turning 10! 10 years ago today, at this exact time, I was in a hospital bed ready to meet my first born. It is 10:41 pm as I write this blog and that is what time I started pushing...and pushing... and pushing. Yes, Savannah should have been born on MAY 31ST, but she had other ideas. My day had started off as normal as a day could be at 3 days after my due date. My mom and brother had come for the weekend and it was Memorial weekend. On Memorial Day, my mom wanted to go to Sears to buy a sewing machine. We stopped in the baby section and looked at baby clothes, debating whether to pick up another outfit. We did not know what the baby was going to be and my mom was picking out things that she thought would be good for either a boy or girl. We went downstairs to see the sewing machines and my low back started hurting. I told my mom and she told me she thought that it was labor starting. I did not believe her, though. We continued shopping and I started getting more uncomfortable. I ended up in the restroom with people threatening to call 911. I finally accepted that I was probably in labor and we convinced people that I was okay and went home. This was about noon. I didn't want to be one of the women who go to the hospital too early, so I convinced my mom and Rob that I would be okay at the bar-b-que that we were supposed to go to. I was pretty uncomfortable, but I never had steady contractions. They would come every 15 minutes, then wait 30 minutes, then the next would be in 10 minutes, then back to 30 minutes. We stayed at the party for a couple of hours and people just kind of stared and looked at me. We finally decided to go home and I told Rob I thought I was ready to go to the hospital. We picked up my stuff and headed over around 7pm. I was scared that they would send me home since my contractions never stayed close together. They checked me in and began examining me and asked me how long I had been having contractions and I told them about 6 or seven hours, but never regular and they told me that I was dilated to an 8 and they would be breaking my water immediately. What!? I figured I had another 12 hours or so... They did break my water soon after that. I never felt that I was in a great deal of pain, but I did get a pain shot. That made me quite happy and I remember telling my friend Mona, that drugs were good! By 10:30 pm, I was ready to push, so they told me, I never had the urge, and so it started. They told me that we would have a baby in an hour. So after an hour of pushing, I was done. But Savannah would only come out a little and then go back and then come out a little and then go back. I kept pushing and Savannah's heart rate didn't drop, so they let me push and push and finally at 1:00am, Savannah was born. The doctor delivered her and put her on my belly, and I couldn't believe she was mine. I remember that the doctor never told us what she was, he must have assumed that we knew! Rob and my mom unwrapped her and said, "It's a girl" and I thought, "I knew it!" I had many dreams that my baby was a girl! She was a great baby and continues to keep us on our toes! She is a bright, beautiful, curly haired 10 year old! I still can't believe it! I am proud of her accomplishments so far and I know that she will continue to make us proud!
